Primed @ Disney's 50s Prime Time Cafe

We just got back from Disney World and one of the highlights of the trip was this visit to a 50s throwback restaurant at MGM. It's setup is just like Mom's kitchen, really. Cousin Laura (our waitress) kept us all in line. But kids will be kids. It was a blast, and the fried chicken was "just like Moms house...excellent! "

LEMS (Lisa, Eddie, Matt & Sean)

September 9, 2007.

Here we are. Not sure whats up with the boys, must of been something they ate but that blonde sure is pretty. Yes this is my family. Sean and Mommy (Lisa) and Matt and Daddy (Lawrence Kabawrence as Matt calls me). This was taken about 2 years ago on Karen and Joe's pier. Matt is now almost 12 and Sean almost 9. Actually the boys and I are all celebrating our birthdays in October. Oh and here is our little girl, Chloe. She is a Cavachon. Another pretty blonde, born Feb 2, 2007.

A Year in the Making- My Basement

Yes it's been almost exactly a year since I started my basement tear down/rebuild project. What was I thinking? Actually it was a typical day for me when it all began- fully unaware of what I was getting into, not having a clue how to do it yet possessing the stupiduty to proceed. My path down every home project it seems. Here are a few pictures of the freak show of a basement.

Sadly the red garage doors, sheet metal ceiling with it's 2000 screws and pink and turqoise painted pipes and walls had to go. I did keep the disco ball though. (humm...maybe I should put that back up).
And the fun begins, with the help of some work buddies. We were moving forward.

I will post the finished product hopefully before the full year is up... about 13 days away ahhhhhh.

A Beach of a Basement is nearly completed...(yeah right)

So we are now officially over a year since I started the tear down. And yes the end is near. It reminds of that Doors song- "This is the end, My beautiful friend, The end." Not sure if I consider my new basement a friend (maybe beautiful though) but based on the amount of time spent being the "mole in the hole", as Lisa called me, we have shared some great moments.

Let me recap on a few starting with my 8-10 different room designs. This may have been the toughest part of the whole process. I have 2 designs attached, one which ended up close to the finished product and the other which well, just did not happen.

And there was that time when I had to move a 20 foot waste pipe about 2 feet to save head room....of course I had to move it TWICE. That darn slope was just not right for the you know what to get flushed away so I had to tear it down and put it all back up. Yes, as we use to say when we were kids, I "member dat time". Oh and there were various other memorable moments, like running electrical. I think the power is off..."Ouch"...I guess not. And the fun of soldering the copper pipes in the bathroom for the sink and toilet. First off who knew you can't solder when there is just a little water in the pipes still. "Aughhhh, you damn dirty pipes". And of course to hear..."Swishhhh" when testing the pipes..."Uh oh, we gotta leak (or 2)".

But through it all its been a great learning experience. One I will never forget. To see the kids faces when the carpet and furniture went in, the TV was setup and then to hear "Wow, this is like a real basement" made it all worth it. And thanks to my honey for making it pretty with her painting talent and ideas, like the wave she painted on the wall for our beach theme basement, the neighbors for guidance and drywall lifting along the way and my 2 work buddies Ronnie and Joe for getting me started with the framing. Their early help (and tools) got it all going.

Thats it for now. Final pictures to come but here is the latest.
